Garrett Becomes Highest Non-QB In NFL History
Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has made a lot of noise over the last month. But in the end, it appears Garret will be in Cleveland for the long haul.
The Browns and Garrett have agreed on a contract extension that will make the former No. 1 overall pick the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. His deal includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money and averages about $40 million per year.
Garrett made noise just ahead of the Super Bowl by publicly requesting a trade away from Cleveland. He cited the reason as wanting to compete for a Super Bowl and initially said that his trade request wasn’t an issue of money.
Now, Myles is expected to remain in Cleveland for at least the next four years.
From ESPN:
The extension also includes a no-trade clause, according to sources, and re-establishes Garrett’s Hall of Fame trajectory that he referred to as “Cleveland to Canton.”
The sides agreed to the deal two days after reports circulated that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam recently declined a request to meet with Garrett over the trade request and instead referred the four-time All-Pro to Berry.
There is some speculation that Garrett’s change of heart has to do with his belief that the Browns’ plan for a quarterback is finally acceptable to him and his team. Garrett has been adamant that he didn’t want to endure another rebuild. Cleveland has the No. 2 pick in this year’s NFL Draft and could use it on projected top draft picks Cam Ward or Shadeur Sanders.
Do you think Myles Garrett has really had a change of heart?
