Cleveland Police Officer Arrested For OVI

A Cleveland police officer has been relieved of his duties after allegedly being arrested for an OVI.
FOX 8 initially reported this story.
The FOX 8 I-Team is currently investigating details surrounding Officer Steven Schmitz’s arrest on Saturday. The Ohio State Highway Patrol indicates that Schimitz was picked up for an OVI and the improper handling of a firearm.

Schmitz was off duty at the time of his arrest.

Schmitz, who was with the department since 2009, was “relieved from duty and is on unpaid leave,” police said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is handling the case.
Defense attorney Henry Hilow has entered a not-guilty plea on behalf of Schmitz.
