The Cleveland Browns and Deshaun Watson have adjusted the end of Watson’s contract, allowing the Browns more room to maneuver when his current deal expires.

The new agreement does not affect Watson’s 2025 contract. The injured quarterback is still due $92 million over the next two seasons.

The Browns season has been terrible, amassing a 3-12 record with just two games left to play. If the NFL Draft were today, the Browns would have the 6th overall pick.

From NFL.com:

The new parameters of the deal would make his contract easier to manage following the 2026 season, when his deal expires.

Watson is recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in mid-October against the Cincinnati Bengals. A typical recovery period for that type of injury is about a full year, giving the Browns hope that Watson will be able to take part in at least some team drills next fall.

At the end of this year, in three seasons with the Browns, Watson will have played in just 19 of a possible 51 games.
There has been no public comment from the Browns on who will be the starting quarterback in 2025.
